She was the precious flower <br />I found walking through the fields <br />Who she was unknown to me <br />But her words made me yield <br />It was not until I lost my spot one day <br />And searched those words back out <br />Did I find that she was famous <br />And for years talked about <br />For me she had started as <br />an anonymous contributor <br />Of the fight for self respect <br />That in me stirred <br />How strange to not have noticed <br />Her face and name were the same <br />and the private world I played in <br />Had long since been her way <br />Empowered and enlightened <br />I read every one <br />Thought about what could have made her write them <br />And the things she must have done <br />It is not out of reach <br />What she knew we all could be <br />But her words weren't for the world at first <br />They seemed only meant for me <br />Thank you for your courage <br />To share what few ever do <br />Although we never met <br />I knew a part of you<br /><br />Lauren B Called<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/maya-28/
