The night is warm around me
A rarity, I admit
Tonight I cannot sleep at all
I am ready to submit

A tapping at my window
A ghost or faerie form?
Samhain creeps closer, true
To steal me in the storm

I throw back the heavy covers
I sit up straight and see
A ghostly shape of faerie folk
Taps at my window for me

Should I stay or should I go?
The faerie beckons me
'Come with me, my darling one,
And I will set you free'

I see his shining face through
The window of my room
If I do not take his offer, will
This place become my tomb?

I throw open wide the window
And let the faerie in
He smiles at me and enters
Will I become like him?

I closed my eyes and waited
Perhaps for my demise
When I looked at him again
I stared in wild surprise

A tall and handsome man was he
A man of faerie form
He smiled at me and took my hand
'Let me take you home'

He took me to the window
I paused, I was afraid
The stars above twinkled innocent
'Jump' to me, he bade

I held my breath, I closed my eyes
I stepped into unknown
Like a white feather I floated down
Landed lightly on the stone

We ran through the urban forests
Through the darkened night
Hand in hand we leapt and sang
Until the dawns first light

At the paling of the sky, he said
'Stay with me, my sweet,
My love, I'll keep you safe from harm,
Listen to my heart beat'

The breeze caught my hair, I smiled
And nodded in ecstasy
To Fairyland we stole at once
My faerie lover and me

Rebecca Kate Summers

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/stolen-24/
