I sailed to a distant land, <br />Navigating by sextant, compass and charts. <br />For months the trip was planned, <br />To seek out unknown parts. <br /> <br />A crew of many were we, <br />Sailors both young and old. <br />Traveling o'er the sea, <br />We were adventurous and bold. <br /> <br />In this land, I met a stranger, <br />A fellow traveler on a bay. <br />He warmed me of the danger, <br />If too long, I chose to stay. <br /> <br />He said I would not come to harm, <br />In this place of faraway. <br />Because of its beauty, people with charm, <br />I'd think of reasons my leaving to delay. <br /> <br />He said, 'You'll end up like me, ' <br />'Once a young sailor in distant land. <br />And now a stranger to the sea.' <br />Then he smiled and shook my hand. <br /> <br />'Ah, well you will have to choose, <br />As I once did, ' said he. <br />'A carefree land-locked life to loose, <br />Or become a stranger to the sea.'<br /><br />Eileen Hardy<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-sailed-to-a-distant-land/
