Former German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has acute leukaemia.<br /><br />News of the diagnosis was announced on his Facebook page in a statement which said he is receiving treatment with a view to making a full recovery. <br /><br />The 52-year-old served in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s previous government in which his liberal Free Democrats were her junior coalition partners.
