My son decided one day
That he did not want to be
In this world of loneliness and pain
So he decided to be free.

A gallon of poison he did drink
On that fateful lonely day
Of the hurt and sorrow he did not think
For his family who would in this world stay.

In an airplane they took him
Some distance far away
Where he would lie in agony
Until the final day.

We sat and cried and prayed,
My family and I
As we saw him take his last breath
And leave this world behind.

I know he is in Heaven
In Jesus' arms so free
The Freedom Bird has taken him
Where he so longed to be.

I know that we will meet again
In God's kingdom far away
Where we will be together
To sing, and laugh and pray!

Frances Gallegos

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/in-memory-of-my-son/
