There is a god for every dream <br />Even the bad ones – the nightmares <br />Though some prefer “angels” to “gods” <br />As if there were a difference. <br /> <br />Good gods, bad gods, <br />Light angels, dark angels <br />Good dreams, bad dreams <br />To each is there is a god. <br /> <br />Dreams are not real <br />Or not yet realized. <br />And nightmares may only seem real <br />So we hope. <br /> <br />Psychologists like dreams better than theologians <br />But don’t believe them. <br />But we all like symbols, hidden meanings, cryptic messages, and dreams <br />But only the good ones <br />If we are not crazy. <br /> <br />Psychologists like crazy, it pays the bills <br />Priests and pastors might be more charitable <br />But all they get are bad dreams. <br /> <br />Prophets, politicians, and publicists deal in dreams <br />So some gods are ungodly <br />And the problem is figuring that out. <br /> <br />But dreams are not real, <br />Or, at least, not yet fully realized <br />So that gives us some time <br />To edit our dreams <br />To choose our gods <br />Who might guide us to God, <br />If we’re truly awake.<br /><br />Lewis Eron<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/to-every-dream-a-god/
