<p>Anti-World Cup protests in Sao Paulo turned <a class="link" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://g1.globo.com/sao-paulo/noticia/2014/06/protesto-contra-copa-termina-com-detidos-na-avenida-paulista.html" target="_blank">violent</a> on June 23, forcing the prominent Avenida Paulista street to <a class="link" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://tnonline.com.br/noticias/politica/4,273060,23,06,ato-anti-copa-fecha-pista-da-av-paulista.shtml" target="_blank">close</a> as clashes broke out between protesters and police. According to <a class="link" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://g1.globo.com/sao-paulo/noticia/2014/06/protesto-contra-copa-termina-com-detidos-na-avenida-paulista.html" target="_blank">reports</a>, gunshots were fired as a warning to those opposing arrest.
