Suspected mastermind of US consulate raid in Benghazi in court

The man suspected of leading the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi in 2012 has appeared in a US court.<br /><br />Ahmed Abu Khattala, arrested by US forces in June, pleaded not guilty to a number of terrorism charges.<br /><br />Khattala told the Washington court that he was in Benghazi at the time of the raid, but did not take part.<br /><br />Witnesses claim otherwise.<br /><br />The US ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens was killed in the attack along with three others.<br /><br />Khattala was brought to court from a US Navy battleship, where he has been held since his capture two weeks ago.<br /><br />He is charged with providing material support for a terrorist attack, killing on a federal facility, and damaging US property by fire and explosives, which resulted in death. <br /><br />Khattala is due back in court on July 8.
