ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />Pope Francis welcomed King Felipe VI of Spain and his wife, Letizia, at the Vatican on Monday (June 30), on the new royal couple's first trip abroad.<br/> <br />Spain's new king, Felipe VI, was sworn in on June 19, after his father Juan Carlos abdicated, in a low-key ceremony which monarchists hope will usher in a new era of popularity for the troubled royal household.<br/> <br />Felipe has promised "new times" for the monarchy, vowing to unify the country and carry out his duties.<br/> <br />Talks between Pope Francis and the Spanish royals lasted 40 minutes and they exchanged gifts. According to Italian media, the King invited the pontiff to visit Spain.
