ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION).<br/> <br />STORY: The skies over Washington, D.C., were lit up in colours of red, white and blue on Friday (July 4) as the nation's capitol marked the Fourth of July holiday with a grand fireworks display.<br/> <br />Thousands of people started gathering near the Washington Monument hours earlier to secure a spot from which to watch the annual spectacle and to enjoy a televised concert that preceded it.<br/> <br />The crowd reached as far back as the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to watch the fireworks that started at sunset and lasted approximately 20 minutes.
