An Italian photographer has wrapped up a Europe-wide tour of his work with an exhibition in Brussels.<br /><br />The European Dream Road bus mirrored the journey taken by many refugees and immigrants across the continent.<br /><br />Photographer Alessandro Penso said he wanted to tell the stories of the many thousands of foreigners who flock to Europe’s shores each year.<br /><br />Penso followed the would-be migrants, who mostly hail from Afghanistan, Syria and North Africa, to see first-hand how they were welcomed inside the EU.<br /><br />Once he had finished his project, he decided to take his work on the road, all the way to Brussels.<br /><br />Illegal migration to the EU rose by nearly half last year, compared to 2012, with 107,000 registered by the EU’s border authorities, up from 72,500 the previous year.<br /><br />A quarter of 2013’s number were Syrians; the largest nationality group.
