Greenpeace activists have staged a protest against planned open coal mines being built in several areas in northwest and southwest Poland.<br /><br />They claim some 30,000 people will lose their homes and local environments will be devastated. They also urge that alternative sources of energy should be pursued.<br /><br />On August 23 a big protest is planned on the border with Poland and Germany when an 8 km human chain will be formed to link up some of the affected area.
