The Ukrainian army is tightening its grip on Donetsk, eastern Ukraine's largest city.<br/> <br />They are moving forces closer to the city setting up a new checkpoint.<br/> <br />The hope is to cut off weapon and ammunition supplies to pro-Russian separatists.<br/> <br />They are setting up tents and digging trenches. They are testing military vehicles.<br/> <br />They hope fighting is entering the final stage.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UKRAINIAN ARMY SERVICEMAN MYKOLA LELEKA, SAYING:<br/> <br />"I am ready to fight till the end along with my friends in order for all of this to come to an end as soon as possible. I want my nephews to be able to walk through this land without trouble."<br/> <br />The Ukrainian military says it has a plan to deliver a "nasty surprise" to separatists dug in in Donetsk.<br/> <br />In a phone call, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko told the U.S. Vice President that separatists have refused multiple offers to negotiate a ceasefire.
