Israel has resumed its bombardment of Gaza, in response to Palestinian rocket fire. <br /><br />Tel Aviv claimed that 50 rockets were fired at Israel during a brief six hour pause in operations.<br /><br />Earlier in the day Israel accepted an Egyptian-led plan for an immediate ceasefire, but the armed wing of Hamas refused to back the terms, denouncing them as “surrender”.<br /><br />Palestinian officials say that at least 192 people have been killed in eight days of hostilities.<br /><br />Egypt’s planned truce had called on both sides to take part in high-ranking talks in Cairo.
