An air strike on a rebel-held border town in eastern Ukraine has triggered a blame game between Kyiv and Moscow.<br /><br />The strike on Snizhne in Donetsk region destroyed several homes leaving 11 people dead.<br /><br />As Ukraine claimed Russian involvement, separatist rebels said the rockets were fired by Ukraine’s air force.<br /><br />Either way it was local residents who bore the brunt of the attack:<br /><br />One distraught survivor of the attack described what happened after the explosion:<br /><br />“I immediately started to run and saw a man from my building, they are a young couple, who just bought a flat here. He screamed: ‘My child was there!’ There was so much smoke everywhere! And when smoke disappeared I ran there and saw my husband standing on the ruins only in his underwear.”<br /><br />In other fighting Ukrainian government forces have reported the loss of eight soldiers in grenade attacks by pro-Russian fighters in the same region.<br /><br />Although Russia denies involvement in the three month conflict EU leaders accuse Moscow of exacerbating the tensions and are set to extend sanctions at Wednesday’s summit in Brussels.
