With the death toll escalating an urgent search for a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict is under way with the arrival of US Secretary of State John Kerry in Cairo.<br /><br />Along with talks which include UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Kerry has brought a US offer of $47m (35m euros) in humanitarian aid for Gaza.<br /><br />“We are deeply concerned about the consequences of Israel’s appropriate and legitimate effort to defend itself…..But always in any kind of conflict there is a concern about civilians, about children, women, communities that are caught in. And we are particularly trying to focus on a way to respond to their very significant needs,” said John Kerry on his arrival in Cairo.
