The death toll for the TransAsia Airways turbo plane crash stands at 47, according to the latest figures.<br /><br />Eleven were injured when it crash landed en route from Taiwan to the island of Makong.<br /><br />The plane was making a second attempt at an emergency landing during a thunderstorm, when it came down near the runway on the island of Penghu, west of Taiwan.<br /><br />It is said to have grazed buildings on the way down. No one on the ground was killed or injured. <br /><br />Of the 58 people aboard the plane 11 survived and were taken to hospital to be treated.<br /><br />Around a hundred firefighters were sent to the scene, in addition to 152 military personnel and 255 police.<br /><br />According to a Civil Aeronautics Administration official, air traffic control said conditions for landing were within international regulations.<br /><br />TransAsia’s president, Chooi Yee-choong has apologised for the incident.<br /><br />“We express our deepest apologies to everyone for this unfortunate event,” he said.<br /><br />Typhoon Matmo hit Taiwan on the day of the crash bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain.
