Turkish citizens living abroad have begun voting in the Turkish presidential election.<br /><br />It is the first time that Turks have been able to vote outside the country. <br /><br />Around 1.4 million Turkish residents in Germany are eligible.<br /><br />At Berlin’s Olympic stadium tens of thousands of people were expected to go to the polls.<br /><br />One woman queuing to vote said: “It is the first time since the founding of the Turkish Republic. And so its very good that we have a determining influence on it, despite the fact that we don’t live there.”<br /><br />Another woman said: “I say that I have two homelands – Germany and Turkey. And as important as Germany is to me, Turkey is as well. Even though I spend the majority of my time here in Germany.”<br /><br />In Rotterdam in the Netherlands around 170,000 Turks are registered to vote making it the biggest polling venue outside of Turkey.<br /><br />It is the first time a Turkish president is being directly elected by the people<br /><br />The current Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the favorite to win. Voting in Turkey takes place on Sunday.
