In South Africa the chief prosecutor in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial has called on the judge to reject his defence, saying it is “devoid of any truth”.<br /><br />The former Paralympic track star sat behind prosecutor Gerrie Nel as he accused Pistorius of being a ‘deceitful witness’ in his closing statements. <br /><br />The prosecution argued that he deliberately shot his then-girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year after a quarrel.<br /><br />Nel claimed there were ‘glaring contradictions’ in the defence’s story that Pistorius killed his model girlfriend by accident, after mistaking her for an intruder.<br /><br />For the first time, the fathers of both Steenkamp and Pistorius attended court to hear the closing arguments. The defence are due to speak on Friday.<br /><br />If convicted of premeditated murder Pistorius faces 25 years to life in prison.
