An Indian photographer has sparked outrage after organising a fashion shoot – depicting a woman being groped on a bus.

Raj Shetye’s images echo the fatal gang rape of a 23-year-old student in New Delhi in 2012 – which caused nationwide anger.

She was attacked on a moving bus and died later in hospital. Her family are calling for the fashion photos to be banned – and the photographer punished.

“It has once again brought us face to face with the incident. He has done it for his own publicity and to make money,” said the victim’s mother.

“He has tried to hurt the sentiments of parents and has mocked a girl’s struggle. He has no right to play with anyone’s sentiments.”

The victim’s father added: “I will appeal to the Supreme Court to punish him. And the photo shoot should be banned.”

The 2012 gang rape attack caused massive protests – throwing the spotlight on the treatment of women in India and forcing authorities to change laws.

Shetye said the photo-shoot was a depiction of the situation of women in the country and was not based on any specific rape incident.
