This version of I Can't Get Started with You is somewhat different than most uploads you will hear on the internet-this is Victor matrix 11675. Bunny Berigan and His Boys play the 1936 classic which was recorded in NYC and was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1975. Just as with Louis Armstrong, Bunny's horn had a unique sound. A member of one of Bunny's bands said the sound was rich and soulful and an interpretation of Bunny himself~fine and loveable. Bunny was Louis Armstrong's favorite musician.
Although the vid shows the recording as 1937, it may have been 1936 according to music historians so if the vid is off by a year - - -?
Bunny started with Hal Kemp straight out of college in 1930. He was so talented that he taught trumpet while at the U of Wisconsin. Bunny played with the greats~Paul Whiteman, Abe Lyman, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, and can also be heard on recordings of Ben Selvin, Freddy Martin, Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby and Billie Holiday. He led several successful bands but was not an organizer and the orchestras eventually were disbanded due to salary disputes, lack of travel arrangements, etc.
This music was played in two notable films-Save the Tiger in 1973 and Chinatown in '74.
Bunny's nickname did Not come about as a result of his affairs such as the torrid 4 year affair with Lee Wiley while Bunny was married with children. While still a baby, an aunt said he was as cute as a bunny and Bunny Berigan just kept rolling off people's lips.
