A U.S. journalist missing since 2012 is now free.<br/> <br />Peter Theo Curtis was released by kidnappers in Syria Sunday to a United Nations representative.<br/> <br />Qatari-owned Al Jazeera first reported the release, which was confirmed by the U.N. and the U.S.<br/> <br />His release comes days after the Islamic State militant group released video showing the execution of American journalist James Foley.<br/> <br />The same video also included a threat to kill another American journalist being held hostage, Steven Sotloff.<br/> <br />The Committee to Protect Journalists estimates that about 20 journalists are missing in Syria.
