A British healthcare worker who contracted the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone has been repatriated to the UK. <br /><br />The man was brought back in a specially equipped military plane and taken to the isolation unit of a London hospital.<br /><br />The authorities have stressed that protective measures will be strictly maintained to minimise the risk of transmission to staff treating the patient.<br /><br />It is the first confirmed case of a Briton becoming infected during the current outbreak in West Africa.<br /><br />Ebola which can be caught from contact with bodily fluids, kills more than 50 percent of those infected.<br /><br />In the current outbreak, described by the World Health Oranisation (WHO) as the worst in decades, more than 1,427 people have died.
