Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Hiroshima on Monday (25 August) after a series of landslides devastated the city.<br /><br /> At least 52 people were killed and 28 remain missing, according to local police.<br /><br /> At an evacuation centre, survivors told Abe about what they had been through.<br /><br /> “I was covered in mud. The whole of my two-storey house was washed away and my wife died. I feel so much regret that I wasn’t able to save her,” an elderly man told the premier.<br /><br /> Parts of northern Hiroshima were engulfed when steep hillsides, saturated by rain, gave way early on Wednesday (20 August).<br /><br /> Abe said the government was looking into ways to better deal with landslide risks.
