Crowds gathered outside the White House in Washington on Monday evening (August 25) in a candlelit vigil for murdered black teenager Michael Brown.<br /><br />His shooting by white police officer Darren Wilson has sparked protests throughout the nation. <br /><br />Some of those attending the vigil said the US has deep-rooted problems concerning racial integration.<br /><br />“I think that we have a very long way to go when it comes to equality”, said one of the rally’s organisers. “I think we have a long way to go when it comes to immigrants, anyone of colour, whether they are Latino or black, Asian… I think that we have a long way to go when it comes to giving everybody a fair chance.”<br /><br />Earlier on Monday, 4,500 mourners attended Michael Brown’s funeral.<br /><br />Several onlookers raised their hands in a gesture often combined with the “hands up, don’t shoot” chant heard at protests since the 18-year-old’s death in Ferguson, Missouri on August 9.
