Surprise Me!

KLH Model Twenty Integrated Stereo (mid-late 1960's)

Here's an early KLH Model Twenty stereo with a Garrard changer. I bought this at an antique radio swap meet for $10. It was dirty, covered with nicotine, and the seller said it had "power supply issues." He wanted $10 because "the cartridge was worth that."

After I got it home and opened it up, I saw the power supply filter caps were bad - one popped its top and the guts of the cap were rolling around inside. Looked like a roll of alox paper!

I changed those caps and cleaned it up and was very surprised just how nice this stereo sounded. The cartridge turned out to be a Pickering XV-15 in good shape! I put this set next to my computer, replacing the Zenith system I've been using for five years.
