Five people and a dog were killed when a single-engine aircraft crashed near an airport north of Denver on Sunday.<br />The Piper PA-46 was traveling from Centennial Airport and was about to land at Erie Municipal Airport just before noon.<br /><br />“We heard it sputtering,” witness Jan Culver told the Daily Camera. “Then there was no sound. We knew it crashed.”<br /><br />The aircraft flipped and landed on its top. Reports said some badly wounded passengers exited the plane before paramedics arrived.<br /><br />Three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
