Turkey summons U.S. envoy over spying report

With his cabinet meeting for the first time, Turkey's new prime minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, already has his hands full in foreign affairs.<br/> <br />Turkey summoned a senior U.S. diplomat Monday over a media report that the U.S. spied on Turkey.<br/> <br />German magazine Der Spiegel wrote on its website that the U.S. National Security Agency and Britain's Government Communications Headquarters intelligence agency had carried out "wide-scale spying."<br/> <br />The article cites documents from the archive of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.<br/> <br />The article also revealed a long-established U.S. intelligence presence in Turkey.<br/> <br />Additionally, Der Spiegel reported that U.S. intelligence services had worked closely with Turkey in its conflict with Kurdish militants.<br/> <br />The report comes weeks after the magazine said that Germany's intelligence agency also had been spying on Turkey.
