Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Russia is “doing and will do” everything possible to secure peace in eastern Ukraine.<br /><br />The comment came during a press conference in Moscow in which he reiterated the need for a ceasefire in the area.<br /><br />But Lavrov implied the US is hindering hopes of a swift progression towards a truce:<br />“The surge in anti-Russian rhetoric that we have seen at the exact moment when there is a very active effort to seek a political solution shows that the party of war in Kyiv is receiving active external support, in this case from the United States,” he said.<br /><br />Later on Thursday (September 4), Lavrov reportedly discussed and agreed on the need for a ceasefire with his French and German counterparts, while “avoiding any action that could undermine the positive trend.”
