The leaders of Britain’s three biggest parties, the Conservative’s David Cameron, Labour’s Ed Miliband and the Liberal Democrat’s Nick Clegg, have gone to Scotland in a last-ditch attempt to shore up the ‘No’ vote in Scotland’s independence referendum.

The three men abandoned Westminster and the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions in a show of unity and joint belief that Britain is better off as a united kingdom, although Miliband will not share a platform with Cameron, as the Conservatives are highly unpopular north of the border. Nick Clegg will also appear alone.

Whether that message will be heard by the Scots is unclear.

The trip was arranged in haste after an opinion poll two days ago suggested Scotland would vote to split from the rest of the UK.
