The Pakistan city of Multan and swathes of Punjab province are under threat from flooding from the Chenab river.<br /><br />The government has placed the area on high alert and initiated relief and rescue operations and evacuated those from low-lying land.<br /><br />In Indian administered Kashmir the waters are on the wane, but thousands remain stranded.<br /><br />Most of the rain fell at the end of the monsoon season in the Himalayan region of Kashmir.<br /><br />The waters then fed into the Chenab river causing widespread flooding of vital farm land.
