The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has agreed to hear an appeal by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi against his conviction for tax fraud in 2012.<br /><br />His lawyer Piero Longo said that the ECHR had agreed to examine Berlusconi’s argument that he had been denied a fair trial in Italy.<br /><br />Berlusconi was sentenced to four years imprisonment for masterminding a tax dodging scheme at his Mediaset company – later commuted to one year of community service.<br /><br />He also lost his seat in the Senate and was barred from public office.
