Hundreds of high school aged students joined university students Friday calling for Hong Kong's leader, Leung Chun-ying, to resign.<br/> <br />University and college students began a class boycott on Monday with a rally that drew about 13,000.<br/> <br />The demonstrators are demanding full democracy in a series of escalating acts that will culminate in an "Occupy Central" blockade on October 1.<br/> <br />Under a formula known as "one country, two systems", Hong Kong returned from British to Chinese rule in 1997.<br/> <br />China promised to respect Hong Kong's semi-autonomous status, including an independent judiciary and western freedoms, for 50 years after the handover from British rule.<br/> <br />But Beijing last month rejected demands for people to freely choose the city's next leader, prompting threats from pro-democracy activists to shut down the central financial district.
