Fire broke aboard a cross-channel passenger ferry on Monday (September 29) as it was docking in northern France.<br/> <br />337 passengers were on board when the fire took hold in the engine room of the Pride of Canterbury shortly after 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT), as the ship arrived into the French port of Calais.<br/> <br />The ferry operator, P&O Ferries, said the blaze was put out by automatic sprinklers and no injuries were reported.<br/> <br />P&O said the Pride of Canterbury would be out of service while the extent of the smoke damage was assessed.<br/> <br />Other ships run by the company were expected to take on the extra passengers in the interim.
