Prevent Palestinian civilian deaths, Netanyahu told

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House on Wednesday, aiming to focus on Iran but instead facing a reminder about the recent Gaza war.<br /><br />Washington is still reeling about the number of civilian deaths during the 55 day conflict, something President Barack Obama pressed his Israeli counterpart on.<br /><br />Netanyahu was urged to find ways to prevent Palestinian civilian casualties in the future.<br /><br />The Gaza war between Israel and Hamas killed more than 2,100 Palestinians – the majority of them civilians – and more than 70 Israelis.<br /><br />Meanwhile Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has warned that if the UN Security Council fails to pass a resolution setting a deadline for Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories, he will go to the International Criminal Court.<br /><br />Those proposals have also caused a rift with Washington, which has been working towards a softer resolution that would reduce Israel’s economic stranglehold.
