Supporters of former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide scuffled with riot police on Tuesday as they marched through the capital Port-au-Prince on the anniversary of a 1991 military coup that ousted the country’s first democratically elected leader.<br /><br />Thousands of Aristide supporters tried to march from the church where Aristide led services as a Catholic priest, to his house, but police fired tear gas to disperse them before they arrived there. Many of the marchers carried anti-government signs, accusing Haitian President Michel Martelly of being a dictator. The march marked the date that the military ousted Aristide less than a year into his first term as president. <br /><br />Opposition political activist Rony Timothee said that next year, when the next presidential election is held, Martelly “will be a political disaster” and “will not be able to rule the country.” The march comes amid fears Aristide will be arrested for failing to heed a court summons to testify in a corruption case.<br /><br />The former president, who was ousted again in a violent rebellion in 2004, has rarely ventured outside his home since returning from exile in South Africa in 2011.<br />No Comment | euronews: watch the international news without commentary | http://www.euronews.net/nocomment/
