A strong earthquake has struck China’s southwestern province of Yunnan, where hundreds died in a violent tremor in the summer.<br /><br />Homes have been destroyed but this time only limited casualties are reported in the quake. Conflicting sources put its magnitude at between 6 and 6.6. The epicenter, Jinggu county, is in a remote, largely rural and mountainous area.<br /><br />State media said five people were killed and more than 20 injured, adding that numbers were likely to rise. It said tents, blankets and other relief materials were being delivered.<br /><br />Earthquakes frequently strike in the region. About 600 people died in a 6.3 magnitude quake which hit another part of Yunnan in August.<br /><br />Six years ago, a quake in Sichuan province, also in the southwest, claimed some 70,000 lives.
