Former Slovenian prime minister Alenka <br />Bratusek is to miss out on a top EU job.<br /><br />A committee of MEPs voted against her candidacy to become Energy Union commissioner by 112 votes to 13, with 2 abstentions.<br /><br />Bratusek could be replaced by another Slovenian politician in the coming days.<br /><br />Spain’s European Commission nominee has been confirmed.<br /><br />Miguel Arias-Canete won the backing of parliamentarians, despite concern over his alleged links with the oil industry.<br /><br />He should now take up the role of the EU’s energy and climate action commissioner.<br /><br />In return, the centre-right parties have agreed to support French Socialist Pierre Moscovici.
