Animal rights campaigners gathered outside the Madrid home of the nurse diagnosed with Ebola hoping to save her dog from destruction.<br/> <br />There were scuffles with police as a van carried the dog away.<br/> <br />Several of the protesters were injured but in the end it was all in vain.<br/> <br />The dog, Excalibur, was put to sleep because of fears the animal could pass the Ebola virus on to humans.<br/> <br />There were further protests outside the hospital where nurse Teresa Romero is being treated.<br/> <br />She'd been caring for two priests repatriated to Spain after contracting the disease in Africa.<br/> <br />Hospital workers are angry about the government's handling of the Ebola crisis.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE)(Spanish) ANDRES GAMEZ, X-RAY TECHNICIAN, SAYING:<br/> <br />"We're demonstrating because, from the beginning of this crisis, this situation happened because everything was poorly planned.
