The number one complaint I hear from patients who have had breast augmentation surgery is that they wished their size was a little bit larger. With adjustable implants, women have the opportunity to adjust the size postoperatively which also helps to balance the size of each of the breast for better symmetry. The patient also does not have to have the stress preoperatively of exactly what size they wish to be.

The surgical procedure that I use is similar to other breast augmentation techniques. It's performed as an out-patient, it is done under general anesthesia. The incision are the same incisions that we use for non-adjustable implants which is through the armpit in the inframammary fold or around the areola. The only difference is that the implant is attached to a tube in a small dome that's hidden under the skin.

When the patient returns to the office, I use that dome to add or subtract fluid depending on the patient's desires. The removal of the fluid or insertion of the fluid to alter the breast shape and size is done in the office with a tiny needle, smaller than you would use to draw blood. The patient just has this technique done and goes home as if they've had nothing done.

Change the volume in the implants which also can help the contour of the implants to get the most youthful, natural contour that is possible. I can make adjustments with this implant for up to six months after the surgery.
