MSF steps up staff training to tackle Ebola

European aid workers are stepping up their preparation as they get set to tackle the Ebola crisis.<br /><br />This is a Medicins Sans Frontieres training centre in the Belgian capital of Brussels.<br /><br />Doctors, nurses and water sanitation specialists take part in simulated exercises before they head to Sierra Leone, Liberia or Guinea.<br /><br />Brice de le Vingne, MSF’s director of operations, said the “lessons” focus on learning “about the characteristics of this illness; the measures to take in terms of protection.” <br /><br />“It’s an introduction so that we already have a certain amount of knowledge and comfort once we go into the field.”<br /><br />MSF has more than 2,000 staff working in the Ebola-hit regions of Africa.<br /><br />The epidemic has claimed at least 4,000 lives.<br /><br />The World Health Organisation said earlier this weak that the deadly outbreak could even lead to state failure in some of the affected countries.
