Germany is to seize the identity cards of radical Islamists it suspects of planning to travel to Syria or Iraq.<br /><br />Intelligence officials think around 450 people have left the country to join the militant group ISIL.<br /><br />Current law allows the seizure of passports, but new rules will also prevent ID cards being used to travel to European countries including Turkey which borders Iraq and Syria.<br /><br />Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said they will confiscate identity cards and issue a replacement document, which would not permit international travel.<br /><br />Germany’s 16 federal states have agreed to boost information-sharing on radical Islamists in Germany.
