Two Israeli soldiers have been airlifted to hospital after being injured by shots fired from the Egyptian side of the border between the two countries.<br /><br />The troops were on patrol when their vehicle was attacked. The Israeli Defence Force says an anti-tank missile was used in the assault.<br /><br />It happened in a zone known as Nahal Ezuz in the Sinai region. The Israeli army has sent forces to the area to check whether there has been any infiltration into Israel’s territory.<br /><br />The pair who were injured were a male soldier and a woman officer.<br /><br />On Wednesday afternoon there was no information about those behind the attack. Some Israeli army sources say they believe jihadists are active in the region.<br /><br />Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty in 1979 and the Egyptian army has been trying to contain Islamist fighters in Sinai.
