Two French entrepreneurs have launched the “HalalTest” – a portable device to test food for the presence of pork.<br /><br />Users mix the sample they want to test with warm water in a little test-tube. They then insert a test strip into the mixture, which shows the result within minutes.<br /><br />The kit can also be used to test medicines and cosmetic<br /><br />Jean-Francois Julien and Abderrahmane Chaoui came up with the idea while at university two years ago – in the midst of a Europe-wide scandal over mislabelled frozen meals containing horsemeat instead of beef.<br /><br />Julien and Chaoui’s company Capital Biotech says the test is 99 percent accurate.<br /><br />The kit is due to be available to purchase online soon, and costs around 7 Euros.
