'Thousands more' U.S. troops to join Liberia Ebola mission

More U.S. troops are headed to Liberia to fight Ebola.<br/> <br />Incoming head of the U.S. military mission there, Major General Gary Volesky, made the announcement in Liberia's capital Monrovia on Saturday -- as he took over for U.S. general Darryl Williams.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) MAJOR GENERAL GARY VOLESKY, 101st AIRBORNE COMMANDER, SAYING:<br/> <br />"Thousands of my soldiers are arriving now, and they are excited and ready to join this great team you have formed, so together we can stamp out Ebola."<br/> <br />That same day, Liberia also received aid, with the first of three vessels arriving at the seaport of Buchanan.<br/> <br />A treatment center built by American forces is expected to open within weeks.<br/> <br />So far, around 4,900 people have died of Ebola in West Africa.<br/> <br />U.N. officials warn that figure could rise exponentially if the global community does not act swiftly.
