She looked through him, <br />as if he were not there. <br />She awkwardly rubbed his arm, <br />as if they were strangers and she gave pity. <br />She dropped her head to his shoulder, <br />pretending not to cry. <br />He whispered in her ear, <br />‘I need you, you know I can’t do this without you’. <br />Each word pierced her chest, <br />plunging in through to her heart. <br />She gasped in between tears, <br />it’s started. <br />She was in the middle of a relapse. <br />Feeling her body break all over again, <br />every insecurity became embraced. <br />Her eyes began to bleed, <br />such sorrow poured from her soul. <br />If only he’d known, <br />if only he’d realized. <br />He gentley held her wrist, <br />‘first thing’s first’ he stated. <br />She tugged her arm, <br />trying to squirm away. <br />’ It’s fine, it’s fine.’ <br />He grabbed her arm, <br />pushing her back. <br />He slowly peeled back the fabric. <br />‘Are they new’, <br />he asked over and over. <br />If it’s so obvious, <br />why does he need to ask. <br />For the first time, <br />he’d made her insecure, embarassed. <br />She retreated, <br />and awkwardly layed beside him. <br />‘I’m fine’, <br />she whispered. <br />He whiped the tears from her eyes, <br />‘No you’re not’.<br /><br />Dakota Ellerton<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/marijuana-body-spray/
