I drove to New Orleans one day <br />with the goal of just seeing your face. <br />Three hundred miles and a hopeful heart, <br />that I’d somehow shine to you in the dark. <br /> <br />Walking up nervously to the venue, <br />I saw you standing there on the sidewalk. <br />You looked so statuesque sporting your favorite shades, <br />and for a second I felt my self-control fade. <br />Couldn’t speak, couldn’t breathe, <br />you literally stunned me. <br /> <br />I wanted to say something memorable, <br />something that would make you see <br />that I’m more than just another face in the crowd. <br />I’m a girl who felt changed, <br />the very first time I ever laid eyes upon you. <br />The way you carried yourself- <br />your mysterious, brooding, intriguing vibe, <br />made me feel something I can’t even begin to describe. <br /> <br />Never before has just the sight of someone had such an effect, <br />and not again since then as I recollect. <br />From Colorado to Florida to the Big Easy, <br />that feeling inside has not left me. <br />You recognized a shirt in NOLA, <br />and gave me your pick in a chivalrous way. <br />Face to face after the tunes came to an end, <br />you said you were glad I was able to attend. <br />Predictably I lost all sense and logic. <br /> My fantasy of blowing you away with my charm drifted far, far away <br />but even so, I will never forget that fateful day. <br /> <br />My only wish is that the next time we meet, <br />your opinion of me will have been changed. <br />I hope you can see that I’m someone worth knowing, <br />someone worth befriending and maybe even loving. <br />I know it’s a long shot, but that’s how I hope you’ll see me. <br />and maybe this won’t have to be a love that can’t be.<br /><br />Christina Oh.<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/dear-matt-winter/
