Death penalty sought for captain in South Korean ferry disaster

South Korean prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for captain Lee Joon-seok, charged with homicide after April's ferry disaster that left more than 300 people dead.<br/> <br />They allege that Lee and his crew abandoned their ship before it sank.<br/> <br />... while giving orders to the mostly teenage passengers to stay in their cabins.<br/> <br />Parents of the victims are demanding justice.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) FATHER OF FERRY VICTIM, KO YOUNG-HWAN, SAYING:<br/> <br />"They just could have said one word to the kids: 'Get out'. They had no idea what they did wrong. How can they be human beings? For them, the death penalty isn't enough."<br/> <br />Prosecutiors are seeking life sentences for the other three crew members charged with homicide, and prison terms ranging from 15 to 30 years for the rest of the crew.<br/> <br />A three-judge panel is expected to announce its verdicts in November.
