Lewis Eron - In Your Light We See Light - Shabat Morning in the Geriatric Home - A Sonnet

I know I’m blessed with a low wattage halo.
At prayer, the old folks use it like a night light
Just bright enough to mark their path but not too bright
To disturb their sleep. No doubt they would choose to go
Someplace else but we push them here. This row
For wheel chairs. Walkers and canes sit at their right
I know they complain that the fit is a little tight
To rise. But here we don’t stand for prayers although
We sometimes sit up straight and chatter in a voice so low
That it sounds like praying even through the words aren’t right.
Nor the melody for that matter. But in God’s sight
Its all the same, an album’s worth of kvetches from down below.
But I still chant our prayers, their Shabbat morning lullaby,
Hoping that one might stir and catch the corner of God’s eye.

Lewis Eron

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/in-your-light-we-see-light-shabat-morning-in-the-geriatric-home-a-sonnet/
