I Looked down on you
while you were asleep
I wanted you here
you were born this week.
and though no one was there
to celebrate your birth
I let the sun shine on you
and the birds did chirp.
We were all singing
Happy Birthday
to you,
and you started to smile
and you looked around too.

as you started to grow
you lifted up your head
and you tried to get out,
of your baby bed

you would rock, and crawl
like you were in a race
and you had a serious look
upon your little face

then this dear lady came
she would be your mom
and she helped you up
pulled you into her arms

then I smiled
I knew you would be fine
and your new dad came in
He was really kind

I saw you smile and show your
baby teeth
and I smiled too
cause your a part of me
and off you went
with your new family

As you grow
I hope one day you'll see
that I was always there,
even in infancy

and even now
I look at your lovely
face, I hope you'll come
to know my word
and my saving grace

through every step
every stage
your every move
all of your grades
I was there

Debbie Bennett

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-celebrated-birth/
